Barber charged before an Ikeja Magistrates' Court, Lagos

A barber named as Katimu Adamu was charged before an Ikeja Magistrates' Court, Lagos for allegedly arresting his neighbours using a fake policeman that stole N55,000 from his neighbours. Adamu, the barber is facing a two count charge of conspiracy as well as stealing.

Insp. Racheal, the prosecutor told the court that offences were committed on February 19 at the Abattoir Market which is in Agege.

According to Insp. Racheal, Adamu fought both Mohammed Bashiru and Mohammadu Usman and later arrested them with a fake policeman.

After the arrest, the fake policeman searched the pockets of Mohammed Bashiru and Mohammadu Usman and collected N55, 000 from them.

Adamu could not produce the fake policeman when he was arrested.

Insp. Racheal said the offences contravened Section 285 as well as 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2011.

Adamu pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Adamu was granted bail by Magistrate L.Y. Balogun in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety.

The case was adjourned to March 14.
